Pioneer

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Our take on the Pioneer TS-G1344R

by John Pollard

Pioneer's TS-G Series speakers can help you get better sound and conserve cash. These affordably-priced speakers replace your worn-out factory speakers, and reproduce your music more clearly at higher power levels.

The TS-G1344R 5-1/4" speakers offer nimble polypropylene woofers that offer plenty of punch, along with film balanced dome tweeters that'll really brighten up the sound in your car. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

  • 5-1/4" 2-way speakers (pair)
  • injection-molded polypropylene woofer cone with treated cloth surround
  • 1-3/16" PEI film balanced dome tweeter

    WORTH THE MONEY!!!

Written By Mohamed, Albany, NY on Tuesday, February 26, 2013

So I bought these as a replacement in my 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. My stock speakers were blown. All four of them. So I replaced all four speakers with these. I was skeptical but decided to get them anyway. The brackets are a pain in butt. I hated them. But the speaker itself sounded nice. I enjoy listening to them loudly. They are hooked up with a stock deck and amp. The only con is that high volume+high bass makes them sound a little distored(DUBSTEP MUSIC). But I don't care they were not meant to be top of the line speakers.
    Pros:
Sound Quality, Looks, Price, Shipping Speed
    Cons:
The brackets are the biggest pain ever.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers did not fit in the door, had to drill extra holes for the screws, speaker harness did not match up so had to run wires from speaker to the radio. They do however live up to the Pioneer name and sound great.
    Pros:
    Great sound
    Cons:
Need to get the harness connections and speaker (provide mount?) correct. Fords are not easy to run wires though !

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these because they were recommended as a close replacement for the door speakers for a FD RX7. They actually fit perfect without any cutting or welding. All the holes lined and they went in easy. My son said they sounded so much better than the old ones.
    Pros:
    They fit with no mods!

Written By Anonymous, Albany, New York on Wednesday, December 26, 2012

I have them running straight off my Eclipse SD3000... 5v per channel sounds way nice on this head unit. Speaker do sound very good for Mid to upper end, expect no base. I don't need base I have quite a subwoofer so it works well... However, NO SPEAKER COVERS??? WHAT THE HECK... WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO WITH NO SPEAKER COVERS?
    Pros:
    Good mid and high
    Cons:
    No speaker covers???

    Don't bother

Written By Mike, Florida on Tuesday, December 25, 2012

A Crutchfield advisor recommended these speakers as replacements for my 2001 toyota camry rear speakers (6x9 JBL). The speakers are a waste of money and would be better suited for a go kart. The brackets they supply are flimsy and 2 of the holes needed to be redrilled.
    Pros:
    at they look good
    Cons:
    sound quality

    Great for the price

Written By Ben, Ohio on Sunday, October 07, 2012

I bought these speakers about a month ago. These speakers are alot better than the 12 year old infinity stock speakers my eclipse had. For the price these speakers are not a bad investment! They produce good sound and are deffenenty worth the price! I have 2 12 kickers and when the bass hits i can beraly hear the music! Also i have to have my pioneer head unit around 35/62 to have a desent loudness and be able to hear them!
    Pros:
    Clear Cheap
    Cons:
No bass Not loud enough for me

    Waste of Money

Written By Nigel D, Michigan on Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Dont waste your money on these just spend the extra money and get Polk or Infinity. When I unpluged these my bass sounded much better with just the front speakers only OEM is better.
    Pros:
Deep Bass sounds descent, but all other bass is distorted. High/Mid is good.
    Cons:
these well bring your overall sound down. Don't replace OEM with these.

    Good N Cheap mid/Highs

Written By FlameJet, Hutchinson, KS on Sunday, May 27, 2012

I replaced the factory head and speakers in a 95 Volvo. These were what i decided on after about an hour of comparing. Completely satisfied. My unit has a subwoofer preamp, which i used to add the low end of sound. The speakers themselves aren't too bad, but as the volume goes up, so does the bass distortion. Set your unit to turn down bass and up mid/high, and get a seperate sub (my self powered 8" rounded nicely.)
    Pros:
good sound, great for mid / high range when paired with a powered sub or component setup
    Cons:
bass distortion at moderate to high volume, need a sub, but even a cheapy self powered sub will solve it.

got them to replace a set of speakers that came in the car when i bought them , and the old ones are going back in , they are only getting power from a 25 watt reciever ,and thats way too much for them ,they only good thing i can say about them it that they are better than the front ones i bought , which isnt saying much
    Pros:
ahhhh they make noise ., but just not very good with music , maybe if you listen to talk radio
    Cons:
not worth it , you can find better if you try

    Decent upgrade to factory

Written By Damien, San Antonio, TX on Sunday, March 25, 2012

I purchased these for my 1993 Mercedes 190E. I thought these would be a decent upgrade from the OE speakers, and they were. Thats all they were. At higher volumes the speakers distorted really badly and would make listening to music a nuisance. I wasnt bumping my stereo, I just wanted to put them to use. The highs were there, mids were being drowned out by the distorted bass notes. I fixed that issue with high pass filters and they helped, the speakers sounded much clearer. But the draw back was that they were no where near as loud as before. Now I had to have the stereo at higher volumes.

I wouldnt recommend these speakers, but if you want something to cheap to upgrade your factory speakers then go again.
    Pros:
Better highs than factory Not too deep so theyll fit Decent upgrade from OEM
    Cons:
They sound terrible at higher volumes. Im not talking about max, but higher than normal. Bass notes distort the other notes

A complete disappointment as solo speakers.

Written By Eric, Vancouver, WA on Tuesday, March 20, 2012
    Installed in a 2010 Mazda 3
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I opted for these 5-1/4" speakers to replace the 6x8" stock speakers in my 2010 Mazda 3 because both Crutchfield and Amazon said that only 5-1/4" would fit. After pulling off my panels (thanks to Crutchfield's awesome Mastersheets), I saw why - the stock speakers' wiring harnesses were on the front of the speaker, not the rear, making the mounting hole EXACTLY 6x8" with no room for wiring.

Against my better judgment, I installed the 5-1/4" Pioneers instead of stopping right there and returning them (which I should have). The Pioneers are terrible replacements for stock speakers if you don't intend to install subwoofer.

Their highs are great, and they actually have decent bass hits, the problem is they have almost no midrange. I tested them by listening to a variety of songs including some with driving bass-lines, and it was like huge parts of the songs were missing. Their midranges are so bad, in fact, that I preferred my stock speakers to these.

If I was looking at installing a more well-rounded setup with an amplifier and subwoofer, these might make a good supportive set. On their own as full-replacement speakers, I recommend looking elsewhere in Crutchfield's offerings... anywhere else.

At first I marked these down for 2 stars, but seeing as how others have given them 5, I'm handicapping my rating down to 1 star. People really need to know how bad these are as stock replacements.
    Pros:
+ Clear highs with crisp treble sound. + Decent bass punches for that periodic "boom boom boom."
    Cons:
    - Terrible with consistent bass lines. - Sounds as though entire elements of my music are missing. - Not an all-around replacement solution for stock speakers.

    Good

Written By Aaron, Columbus, OH on Monday, January 09, 2012

These made the sound coming from the rear doors in my Saturn L100 dramatically better! There is a lot more bass coming from the doors than with the OEM speakers.

I didn't use a speaker adapter to install them. I lined them up with the seal for the OEM speakers and drilled four holes in the door to mount them.

I've tried Pioneer 5 1/4" speakers in the past and they always seem just a little bit too small. These are also smaller than OEM but they still worked with the seal from OEM so I have no complaints.
    Pros:
    Sound
    Cons:
    Maybe too small

    Just a bit too small

Written By William, Maine on Sunday, November 13, 2011
    Installed in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After speaking with a product tech I was told this would be a direct fit replacement (and it was). However, I now wish I had gone with the 6 1/2" that was the same size as the stock AC Delco. The 6.5 was the same price. If you have the room, go with the larger size and don't be disappointed.
    Pros:
This product installed easily with the hardware Crutchfield included. The speaker is better than stock.
    Cons:
It just seemed too small after installed. It sounded better than stock (not a difficult feat) but lacked the "umph" I was hoping for.
