With the money I saved I just bought the alpine KTP-445 power source as I have an alpine deck and it will upgrade me to 45 RMS X 4. My only worry now is that I will have to get a pair for the rear due to the fact that my Boston Acoustics get slightly distorted at max volume, while theese have much more to go. Excellent mids and good highs (about as much as you can expect without going with component speakers) very loud with a decent deck especially with an amplifier. with the purchase I made today for the KTP-445 I will be at 1480 RMS total..... time to upgrade my alternator :( 1300 RMS going to two alpine R 12's at 4 ohms in the trunk and soon to be 180 RMS going to my door and rear speakers. ill write a review as to how my Boston acoustics like the extra power. I think I'll stick with alpine for now if I am going to amp up my speakers. Something tells my my BA's are going to blow up with the extra power. Will replace them with another set of Type S's when that happens. We installed these speakers in a 2008 Mazda 6 about four months ago. The speakers were a good choice for the rear doors since component tweeters weren't needed in the rear. They fit the factor holes perfectly allowing us to keep the factor door panel intact for a clean install. The sound from these speakers is incredible. No noticeable coloring from the lowest bass notes to the highest highs. The speakers are coupled to an Alpine MRX-V60 amp, Boston Acoustics SC50 component speakers in the front (component tweeters were small enough to fit in the factor bezels), and a pair of Polk DXi104 SVC 10" subs in the trunk. The Alpine SPS 517s fill in the rear of the cabin beautifully for the front passengers, and the rear passengers get great direct sound pounded at them. Silk Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" Wide-Range Silk Dome Tweeter for smooth high frequencies. The tweeters also swivel up to 10° so you can optimize them based on your listening position. Efficient Design: The SPS-517's high-efficiency design allows the speaker to be powered by your factory or aftermarket head unit, resulting in an easy system improvement for many vehicles requiring 5x7 or 6x8 speakers. Shallow-Design: The shallow polymer frame allows easy installation in a wide range OEM locations. We have now put 12 of these speakers in three different vehicles. The latest was a new 2013 Mazda 6. The minute you take them out of the box to see them side by side with the factory speakers it will be night and day. Well constructed and the sound is excellent. Have to spend a lot of time in traffic, but enjoy my ride with my new system and speakers. A dramatic improvement from the factory crap that had been installed! Will definitely buy again Pros: Exact fit for my 2013 Mazda 6, all holes align perfectly. Wow. huge improvement. and now I dont have to crawl over the passenger side!. I have only had these speakers for a couiple days, so they are not even broken in. I chose to power them with the Alpine MRX-F30 4 channel amp. I am pleasantly surprised by the clean sound even at high volume levels. I would absolutely recommend the speakers to anyone looking to upgrade their stock system with out breaking the bank. Pros: Great Quality sound. 5 out of 5 2nd pair Written By Frank, Washington on Wednesday, January 04, 2012 I had a pair of boston acoustics in rear and stock speakers in my doors on my 99 Mercury Grand Marquis. I wanted to upgrade and was thinking about the type R's but didnt want to run an amp. So I went with theese. With the money I saved I just bought the alpine KTP-445 power source as I have an alpine deck and it will upgrade me to 45 RMS X 4. My only worry now is that I will have to get a pair for the rear due to the fact that my Boston Acoustics get slightly distorted at max volume, while theese have much more to go. Excellent mids and good highs (about as much as you can expect without going with component speakers) very loud with a decent deck especially with an amplifier. with the purchase I made today for the KTP-445 I will be at 1480 RMS total..... time to upgrade my alternator :( 1300 RMS going to two alpine R 12's at 4 ohms in the trunk and soon to be 180 RMS going to my door and rear speakers. ill write a review as to how my Boston acoustics like the extra power. I think I'll stick with alpine for now if I am going to amp up my speakers. Something tells my my BA's are going to blow up with the extra power. Will replace them with another set of Type S's when that happens. We installed these speakers in a 2008 Mazda 6 about four months ago. The speakers were a good choice for the rear doors since component tweeters weren't needed in the rear. They fit the factor holes perfectly allowing us to keep the factor door panel intact for a clean install. The sound from these speakers is incredible. No noticeable coloring from the lowest bass notes to the highest highs. The speakers are coupled to an Alpine MRX-V60 amp, Boston Acoustics SC50 component speakers in the front (component tweeters were small enough to fit in the factor bezels), and a pair of Polk DXi104 SVC 10" subs in the trunk. The Alpine SPS 517s fill in the rear of the cabin beautifully for the front passengers, and the rear passengers get great direct sound pounded at them.
