Why would I need an iPod® adapter?

An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music.

The CD-IU51V interface cable lets you connect your iPod to select Pioneer navigation and DVD receivers, so you can access your iPod with the system's touchscreen controls. You'll see information like song and album titles, artist names, and track length — all conveniently displayed on the receiver's screen. Just connect the cable to your iPod, plug it into your Pioneer receiver, and enjoy.

This cable currently works with Pioneer's AVIC-X930BT and AVIC-Z130BT receivers. Warranty: 1 year.

Overview: The Pioneer CD-IU51V interface cable allows you to plug your iPod/iPhone directly into a compatible Pioneer multimedia head unit's USB and Aux input terminal, and gain direct control, audio/video playback, information display, and charging from the head unit. Music Browsing, Alphabetical Search, Album Art, and Link Search make it easy to find your iPod/iPhone's music.

Pioneer Headunit Compatibility: The CD-IU51V USB interface cable for iPod/iPhone is compatible with the following 2011 Pioneer multimedia/navigation in-dash head units which feature a USB (type-A) port and an A/V 3.5mm auxiliary input (as of December 2011).

AVH: P2300DVD, P3300BT, P6300BT
AVIC: X930BT, Z130BT
MVH: P7300, P8300BT

iPod/iPhone Controls: To make operating and searching easy, operations to control your iPod/iPhone with your Pioneer multimedia are designed to be as similar to the iPod/iPhone as possible.

Music Browsing: You can search your iPod/iPhone's audio/video content by category (Video Playlist, Movie, Music Video, Video Podcast, TV Show, Rented Movie, Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, Composer, or Audiobook). Each category is then listed alphabetically to ensure easy access to each audio/video file.
Link Search: In addition, Link Search allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Search lets you create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre.
Time Search: Time Search lets you select a desired position (elapsed time) within a single track on your iPod/iPhone.
Random & Repeat: You can also select random and repeat functions for a certain song, specific category, or your entire iPod/iPhone's music library.

iPod/iPhone Display: Your compatible multimedia head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information, including - Track number, Folder number, Elapsed playing time, Song title, Artist name, Album label, and Album art.

iPod/iPhone Charging: Your compatible multimedia head unit's USB connection will power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone battery when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

Note: If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Well, it's not like you have a choice or anything - this is apparently your only option for attaching an iPod to the Pioneer mobile audio/nav systems. I did not find it too short, it's about 4' long and I was able to route it down the center console of my Infiniti G35 to the storage bin/armrest with an extra 18"or so of cable left.

Pros:

Works, looks rugged enough, includes a cap for the 32 pin plug end.

Cons:

Expensive and bulky!

Great Audio, Poor Video

I recently purchased a new Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD head unit from Crutchfield and installed it on Sunday, 1/6/13. I also purchased the Pioneer CD-IU51V I pod/ I Phone accessory cable to connect my I phone 4s to the head unit. The cable works great for Pandora, but when I try to use it for Netflix or MotionX GPS Drive the picture cuts in and out. Even moving the cable ever so slightly makes it worse. Also, if I try and use Youtube, nothing even comes up on the screen of the head unit, but I get audio through the speakers. For the price the cable should work all of the time. I contacted Pioneer they will not give me a replacement cable nor a refund!!!

Poor Video, cuts in and out, not reliable

Good quality cable, not flimsy, nice locking connector. You need the USB part for iPod controls and the 3 ring RCA for music and pic transfer. Nice 30 pin connector cover to keep it clean. Pricy but it does it's job. For anyone that wants to run it from the back of the head unit to the glove box it might be a tad short but it's fine for me.

Cable works great with my iphone 4 and the Pioneer AVH-P3400BH. I can fully control the iphone from the head unit and can see all song info and album art.

works perfectly. but it's just a usb & 3.5 to dock connector cable. what could go wrong

I initially bought this cable for two reasons. First, it bypasses the iPod/iPhone's DAC, giving you the best sound quality. Second, it charges your iPod/iPhone. It does both of these very well, and the sound quality is a tremendous upgrade from standard radio or bluetooth audio streaming.

The only problem is that it states in the owners manual that this cable contains elements that are KNOWN TO CAUSE CANCER, and they simply recommend that you wash your hands after using. If you do buy this cable, I recommend that you also buy some wire loom or heat shrink tubing to cover up the cable so you won't run the risk of getting cancer from this overpriced cable.
