The right light for a better look
The HVL-F20S's flash head can be aimed to create different lighting effects. Turn to the "indoor" setting when you want to bounce the flash off the ceiling for softer illumination with less glare and fewer shadows — ideal for more pleasing portraits. Use the "outdoor" setting to fire the flash forward and aim the most light possible at your subject.

    Features

    Overview: The Sony HVL-F20S flash is designed for use exclusively with Sony cameras with the Smart Accessory Terminal. The flash is powered by the camera's battery, so there is no need for a separate flash battery. The flash turns on and off by raising and lowering the flashtube.

    Compatibility: The HVL-F20S is compatible with Sony α NEX-series cameras, including the NEX-3, NEX-5, and NEX-C3.

    Bounce Switch: The left end of the flash tube can be turned clockwise to the Bounce position the flash light is set at 75° upward so it can bounce off of a ceiling or wall to soften shadows. If the switch is turned counter-clockwise to the Direct position, the flash is aimed directly at the subject (0°).

    Tele Switch: The right end of the flash tube can be turned counter-clockwise to the Tele position to extend the flash beyond its normal range. This is helpful in outdoor shooting when the subject is too far from the camera to be reached by normal flash. Flash range in standard position is equivalent to 16mm focal length range (35mm equivalent: 24mm), while the range in the tele position is equivalent to 35mm (35mm equivalent: 50mm). The Tele switch is only enabled when the Bounce switch is in the Direct position.

    Wide Panel: Included with the HVL-F20S is a wide panel light diffuser, which attaches over the lens of the flash. The wide panel is especially effective when used with the separately purchased Ultra Wide Converter, which is equivalent to 12mm focal length range (35mm equivalent: 18mm).
