SiriusXM

Our take on the SIRIUS SC-VDOC1 Car Kit

by Zak Billmeier

If you already own a SIRIUS dock-and-play or portable radio, this SC-VDOC1 kit allows you to control it with your SIRIUS-compatible in-dash receiver. The kit contains a dock for your SIRIUS radio, a micro-antenna, a car mount, and a connecting cable. SiriusConnect adapters are available for select factory radios, and for select aftermarket receivers from Alpine, Clarion, Eclipse, Harman Kardon, JVC, Kenwood, and Sony.

Once you place your compatible SIRIUS radio in the dock, the connecting cable carries the signal to the brand-specific SiriusConnect adapter, which allows 2-way communication between the SIRIUS radio and your stereo. You can use the controls on your car stereo to surf SIRIUS channels, and view artist and song info on your receiver's screen. Best of all, you can carry your dock-and-play SIRIUS radio into your home so you only need one subscription.

Highlights:

  • SiriusConnect™ car kit for dock-and-play radios
  • contains dock for your SIRIUS radio, a micro-antenna, a car mount, and a connecting cable
  • requires a brand-specific adapter to interface with your car stereo
  • allows you to control your dock-and-play SIRIUS radio with your car stereo
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

    Works Great!

Written By Mario R, Dobbs Ferry, NY on Monday, May 20, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a portable Sirius tuner with a lifetime subscription, so I keep it and be able to operate my Sirius with the new head unit that I bought for my car. I bought a JVC head unit, and needed a JVC adapter for the Sirius Connect adapter: when I had everything connected up, it all worked perfectly. Both the JVC adapter and Sirius Connect came with very long wires, so I had a good deal of excess to zip-tie together and cram beneath the dash, but all turned out well.
    Pros:
    Works as advertised.
    Cons:
Needs an additional adapter for some JVC head units.

    Great Sirius Controller

Written By ScottABQ, Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Simply put...this Sirius SC-VDOC1 contoller works great with the JVC Arsenal KDA735BT and my Sirius Starmate 5. I mounted it in my glovebox and the Sirius unit stays put. It provides a good link to the JVC KDA735BT and the controls work well.
    Pros:
    Works great

    None

Does what is supposed to. Takes an existing Sirius radio and allows you to plug it into other things
    Pros:
    Just works
    Cons:
Really long, large cords are difficult to hide if you are putting the Sirius unit near the radio

    SIRIUS SC-VDOC1 Car Kit

Written By Joe, American Canyon, Ca. on Sunday, August 21, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this for my motor home. All I had to do was slide the stereo out of its mount and plug it in. My stereo was "Sirius Ready". No adapter required. Reinstalled my stereo, plugged my Sportster 5 and turned it on. I now have all my great Sirius programing in my motor home when we travel. Thanks Crutchfield for helping me overcome this little challenge I had. It works great.

should have done this in the first place!

Written By Kevin, Terra Ceia, FL on Tuesday, June 21, 2011

No more suction cups and dangling cords!

I should have gotten the SC-VDOC1 and Kenwood KCA-SC100 when I bought the head unit and Sportster radio. Now both are tucked neatly in my glovebox and I control the Sirius via my Kenwood head unit.

If Crutchfield can hook me up with a 90-degree male-male adapter for the cord from the VDOC1 to the SC100, I can ditch the bundled-up long cable and connect them directly for a super-clean job.

I hope the antenna connection at the VDOC1 is more durable than on my original suction-cup dock, as it started dying after ~6 months. Since it's a cable from the VDOC to my antenna, instead of a jack connection like I had before, I think it might hold up better.

My existing Sirius antenna plugged right in to the VDOC1, so I didn't have to redo the antenna install, and now I have a spare antenna if I ever need one.

looks fantastic but this is a docking pod for older radios and did not work with my
new clarion cx510.. Wish it had as I wanted to be able to transfer my stratus6 from
car to car. Now I need to pay for a second subscription even though I will never
use both at the same time..

Excellent cradle for a hidden installation

Written By Jim, Hilton Head Island, SC on Tuesday, August 03, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit allowed installation of my new sportster 5 in the glovebox and controlled through my Sony XAV-70BT Head Unit via the SNYSC1 interface. It works flawlessly and I dont have that bright display hanging out of the dash. This is a plus since I fried my long lived Sportster by spilling coffee in it because of the mounting position. Also, for security reasons, I no longer need to remove the radio from the dock. This should prove to prolong the cradle/radio contacts that seem to wear on the Sirius radios. I will only need to remove it if I want to bring it in the house and listen to it on my home dock. Ordering through Crutchfield again has been a pleasure. I highly recommend doing business with them.

    SIRIUS SC-VDOC1 Car Kit

Written By Grant, Apple Valley, MN on Wednesday, January 21, 2009
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've installed this product in two of my vehicles (2008 Toyota Highlander with a VA-W200 headunit and a 1998 Audi A4 with a CDA-9855 headunit).

The KCA-SC100 in combination with the SC-VDOC1 Car Kit allows me to use my Stiletto 2 between both cars (the Toyota is here in MN and the Audi is in Montana). This is very convenient compared with how I had it set up before sharing a Sirius SIR-ALP1 tuner between the two vehicles. Also, the SIR-ALP1 tuner was a poorly engineered product.

2005 Jeep Wrangler - major issues

Written By tdrouill, Golden, CO on Sunday, December 28, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this along with a SC-VDOC1 to use my Sirius Starmate-4. I ordered an Alpine IDA-X200 head unit and PXA-H100 Imprint processor. I'm using an Ipod Nano with the head unit.

I connected everything per instructions, and it was an outstanding setup. After a few days however, the display on the X200 said "searching", I clicked "source", and from that point could only toggle between the ipod and FM-radio. No Sirius. Moreover, there was no sound from the stereo. I disconnected the AI-Net cables from the SC100 and hit the reset button, that gave me ipod and AM/FM, with sound.

I upgraded the head unit to an IDA-X100 and Crutchfield replaced the SC-100. Again, it worked for a few days, then stopped working in the same manner.

Crutchfield suggested we replace the SC100 and SC-VDOC1. Tried that, a few great days, then it failed again.

I finally gave up. It was wonderful controlling Sirius through the head unit, but 3 strikes and I'm back to running Sirius through an aux input. Crutchfield was AWESOME with customer support, but in the end I wish this had worked. I'll try again with Alpine's next generation.

    SIRIUS SC-VDOC1 Car Kit

Written By John, Kingsport, TN on Thursday, December 25, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this unit along with my Stiletto1. It works well for what it is supposed to do. I actually had to remove the battery from the Stiletto to prevent the antenna error. I wish this unit allowed me to access the other contents of my Stiletto via my receiver. However, as for allowing my to control my Sirius tuning via my receiver, it performs very well.

Works on my Siletto 100 and Kenwood in-dash unit

Written By ruddock, Montville, NJ on Friday, September 12, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm pleased to report it works 100% on my Stiletto 100 (2 year old unit) and my Kenwood KDC-MP538U.

I mounted the stiletto hidden inside my glove box. The 3-line display on my kenwood head unit displays the artist, channel name, and song title.

Just FYI - there 's a couple weird quirks, but nothing that prevents it from working 100%:
    - I let my Stiletto battery drain 100% dead one day, then plugged the stiletto into my car. It didn't work. All kinds of errors appeared on the Kenwood screen. Very weird! I unplugged the battery from the Stiletto and it all worked perfectly again.

    - You can play the satellite radio from your head unit, and that's all. You cannot access any of the other radio features - such as the mp3 player, "pausing" the radio, or recording/playing of satellite radio content. The stiletto screen displays nothing when it is plugged in and you can't access any of the stiletto features even by using the buttons on the stiletto. This is 100% fine with me - as I mounted mine hidden in the glove box.

    - Some of the messages are a little strange, at least on my Kenwood. The "Antenna Error" message sounds like it could be serious problem but it really just means no satellite signal. "CHECKING CHECKING CHECKING" also appears sometimes - this means your radio is "booting up" and should be available shortly. There's a couple other weird ones that appear. No issues there, but they could have picked more friendly messages? :)

    Just superb!

Mine is connected to a Pioneer via the Pioneer adapter. It's really convenient and less expensive than buying a second Sirius radio. Now I can take my radio from the car and pop it into the dock in my office and listen to Sirius while I work. Since the Pioneer takes complete control of the Sirius the radio is mounted in a completely out of the way location.

    Worth The Wait

Written By Carl, Houston, TX on Sunday, February 24, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Although it took about 11 months (or more) to get the VDOC to market, it appears to be worth the wait. Having the portability of the Starmate 4 and the control through my Alpine CDA 9885 is great. I have the VDOC connected through the Alpine KCA-SC100 SIRIUS Connect to Ai-Net Interface which also has the Alpine Aux Adaptor connected. The 9885 recognizes both automatically and will scroll through Tuner, CD, Aux and Sirius through the source button. The sound quality appears to be better through the VDOC then before when it was connected through the aux adaptor.
