High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each Polk DXi 400 speaker features a Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Tweeters: Each Polk DXi 400 speaker features a 3/4" silk dome tweeter for clear, accurate highs. The tweeters use a light-weight neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.

The sound quality and range of these speakers is much better than I expected from their 4" size. The mid-range bass really impresses me. They also work great in combination with the JVC KD-AHD69 head unit, with no amplifier. The quality of the material seems to be really good, and the screen covers look like they'll stand up well.

These 4" speakers are really very musical and, although they run out of breath in the mid-bass range, they really shine in the upper register. Highs aren't brittle and the mid-range to high frequency transition is very smooth. Sibilance is very well controlled and there is no noticeable smearing of the sound stage with the coaxial speaker design. For the price, these are super performers.

Pros:

Easy installation with 4x6 inch adapter plates and wiring adapters included by Crutchfield at no additional expense. Nicely packed with sedately styled grilles. Materials and construction are very good. The magnet structures and frames are nicely done.

Cons:

In a small car with no room for larger speakers, I had to use what would fit. It's no fault of the speakers, but they are short on output in the mid-bass range and really don't produce any useable output below 100 to 125 hz.

Perfect Match for the Price

I wanted to change out my factory system and speakers on my 97 Jeep Wrangler. Lets face it basically driving around in a tent. Based on the advice of the rep. I went with Kenwood KMM-100u Media Receiver and the Polk Audio DXi 400's and 525. I am writing one review for all three products at once.

I did the install by myself (with a couple of call into the tech line to make sure I was not going to far off base. Word of advice get the install kit. It is a wise investment. The overall installation I spent another $30 but that due to the wiring mess I found once I took the receiver out and had to some splicing. No way Crutchfield could have seen that one coming and yippie I have new volt meter, zip ties and a bunch of butt splices.

DXI400-30+ mins The front speakers went in now problem the install kit worked perfect.

DXi525 - 1 hr + The Roll Bar speakers were a bit a trick due to having to hold the speaker, the grill frame, placing the spacers, screws all while going up and having only two hands. First one was the learning curve and the second one when in pretty quick. All said and done they looked great with the grills on.

KMM-100 3+ hours to finish

This is just a media receiver. The uninstall of the old system (previous owner had an Alpine) was simple. Getting the new on in took a few hours as I had to make a parts run and splice everything together from scratch.

Hooked the battery back up and was good to go.

Pros:

Recommendations really worked for the vehicle in question Easy install for one person - Tech support was great to deal with questions I had Instructions were basically spot on The sound difference is remarkable - At 70 mph on the interstate everything is clear and sounds great from music to audio books Looks good in the vehicle

Cons:

None on the speakers I see at this point in time.

Excellent for mids and highs. Using in my rear doors for some fill. I'm sending 50 RMS to them with the x-over set at 100 Hz. Can be cranked up with absolutely no distortion. The negative reviews stating a lack of bass are people simply using these improperly. It's a 4" speaker of that only goes down to 85 Hz.

I was very lucky to catch these on sale here on Crutchfield, for less than half the price! They installed easily as a direct replacement for my factory front-door speakers. These speakers sound great, using only my Kenwood KDC-X395 head unit which puts out 22w RMS / /50w Peak, which also includes a crossover. These speakers put out decent mids and nice crisp highs.

For those writing negative reviews, saying these are no good for bass, please understand, you're NOT going to get deep bass and lows from a 4" speaker!!! Read the specs and understand them, these speakers are rated at 85-22,000 Hz, meaning you're not going to get 20 Hz unless you get subs.

I am very happy with these, they cut through the noise in my truck and the road noise nicely.

Great sound

I installed these speakers in a Dewalt work site radio/charger. The sound from these speakers is not over powering in the immediate room, but can be heard very clearly from many rooms away. (We are in the process of building a four story hotel.) I believe these speakers produce 'Bose' quality sound at a very affordable price. The music is heard, but you don't know exactly what room it is coming from. I'm glad I took out the factory speakers, and replaced them with the DXI400's

Great room filling sound. Weather resistant cones. Sharp grille design.
