Features
Overview: The BG-E11 Battery Grip is
designed for the Canon EOS 5D Mark III digital SLR camera. Using the supplied
BGM-E11L Battery Magazine, the battery grip can hold up to two LP-E6 Battery
Packs. When the supplied BGM-E11A Battery Magazine is inserted, the BG-E11 can accommodate six "AA" alkaline batteries. No batteries
are included with the Battery Grip. When installed, the BG-E11 adds
approximately 1-13/16" to the overall height of the camera. A protective pouch is included for carrying the unused Battery Magazine.
Installation: Before installation, the battery and battery
compartment cover are removed from the camera body. The BG-E11 then slides into
the battery compartment and mounts to the bottom of the camera, held in place by
threading the attachment screw into the camera's tripod insert. An additional
tripod insert is provided on the bottom of the grip, so you can still use a
tripod or monopod. One or two LP-E6 batteries can be installed in the Battery
Grip. When two batteries are installed in the magazine, power is supplied
simultaneously from both batteries, effectively doubling the battery life. Six "AA" batteries
will power the camera when using the included BGM-E11A battery magazine. Because
of variations between battery brands, storage conditions, and the effect of cold
temperatures on alkaline batteries, use of "AA" batteries is recommended only
for emergencies.
Battery Life: Approximate number
of shots while using the viewfinder at 73°F:
- One LP-E6 Battery Pack: Approx. 950 shots
- Two LP-E6 Battery Packs: Approx. 1900 shots
- Six "AA" Alkaline Batteries: Approx. 270 shots
Using Household Power: To connect to a household power
outlet, the optional AC Adapter Kit ACK-E6 (sold separately) should be used. The
adapter kit's DC coupler fits into one of the LP-E6 slots in the Battery Grip.
Controls: The Battery Grip is equipped with several
controls, conveniently placed for use when the camera is in the vertical
(portrait orientation) position. The controls include a shutter button,
multi-function button, multi-controller, main dial,
AF Start button, AF point selection button, AE Lock button, and a vertical grip
operation switch. With the switch in the
Off position, the controls on the
battery grip are no longer active; you should use the controls on the camera
body.
Optional Hand Strap: The Battery Grip has a mount for the
optional Hand Strap E2. The Hand Strap provides a more secure grip when using
the Battery Grip on the camera.
Weight: Approximately 10.9 oz./310
