Features
Overview: The Rockford Fosgate P500X4D is a 4x75-watt, Class-D,
full-range, 4-channel amplifier. Class-D amplifiers are very efficient, which reduces
current consumption from the vehicle's charging system.
Cast Aluminum Heatsink: The cast aluminum heatsink dissipates
heat generated by the amplifier's circuitry. The inherent advantage of casting
provides a 30% improvement of cooling over conventional extrusion heatsink designs.
DSM (Discrete Surface Mount): In the manufacturing process
high speed robotics are used to place 1% tolerance parts and large board traces.
DSM improves the efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete
components and lowers operating temperature.
Power and Protection LEDs: Power and Protection LEDs are located
on top of the amplifier. The Power LED glows red when the amplifier is turned on. The
Protect LED illuminates yellow if a short circuit or too low an impedance is detected
at the speaker connections. When any of the protection circuits engage, the amp
automatically shuts down until the problem is corrected.
Controls
Control Panel: The P500X4D has top-mounted controls, covered
by a removable panel. There are independent controls for the front and rear
channels, and include the following:
- Internal Crossovers: Each crossover can be
set for high-pass, low-pass, or all-pass (full range) operation
by a 3-way switch. The cut-off frequency is continuously variable
from 50Hz to 500Hz, and has a slope of 12dB per octave.
- Punch EQ: The Punch EQ can supplement low
frequencies to give your music more impact and presence. The Punch
EQ becomes active only when the crossover switch is set to low-pass,
providing a bass boost of 0-18 dB at 45 Hz.
- Gain: You can match the output of the connected
source unit using the rotary gain control. The gain control can be
set between 0 and 11.
2/4 CH Switch: On the front of the amplifier, you can switch the
inputs to a 2-channel or 4-channel mode. When using only one pair of inputs, you can
feed all 4 output channels by pressing in the 2/4 CH switch.
Connections
Power Connections: The power and ground terminals are
nickel-plated set-screw wire connectors and will accommodate up to 4-gauge
wire. An external 60-amp fuse (not included) must be installed on the power
wire within 18 inches of the battery. If a wiring kit is used which includes
a fuse with a value other than 60-amps, the original should be replaced with
a 60-amp fuse. The remote turn-on terminal will accept wire sizes of up to 12
AWG. The supplied 2 mm and 4mm hex keys is required to tighten/loosen the
terminals.
Differential Input: Differential input circuitry measures the
voltage of both the positive (+) and negative (-) portions of the input signal,
subtracting the voltage common to both conductors (noise), resulting in a cleaner
signal. Reducing the noise on the input then improves the sound quality of the output.
Speaker Connections: The 4-channel nickel-plated set-screw wire
connectors will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The supplied 2mm hex key is required to
tighten/loosen the terminals.
