If you want top-notch Polk sound for all your music and movies, but don't want to sacrifice the floor space that standard speakers require, the Polk RC80i in-ceiling speakers offer a perfect alternative. Each one includes a 8" Dynamic Balance woofer and a 1" Dynamic Balance dome tweeter for rich, full-bodied sound throughout your listening area.

The tweeter's ball-and-socket swivel mount lets you aim it as you please, directing the high frequencies for the best possible sound in your favorite listening positions. The RC80i is voice-matched to other Polk speakers, so you can use a pair as your surround speakers in a home theater system that includes more traditional freestanding speakers for the front channels.

The rotating-cam design makes installation easy — once you've prepared the opening in your ceiling and run UL-rated wiring from your receiver, you can secure this flush-mount speaker with a few turns of a screwdriver. And you can paint the white matte grilles to match any decor.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the RC80i in a home with new construction.

Dynamic Balance Technology: Dynamic Balance drivers are used for wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofers: Each speaker features an 8" Dynamic Balance, mineral-filled polypropylene woofer for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1" Dynamic Balance, metalized soft dome tweeter in a ball-and-socket swivel mount. The aimable tweeters give you direct high-frequency control, resulting in excellent imaging even for off-axis listening positions.

Infinite Baffle Tuning: Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior bass response.

Moisture-resistant: Durable, moisture-resistant materials allow you to install the speakers in bathrooms, kitchens, saunas, even under outdoor eaves.

Mounting Options

Installation: The round shape and flush-design allow the RC80i to mimic the look of a recessed lighting fixture. Each speaker requires a cutout of 9.375" and a mounting depth of 3.25". Each speaker frame has a diameter of 10.685". Once the holes are cut, each speaker can be dropped in and the Rotating Cams can be tightened, allowing you to secure each speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly. If you will not be mounting these speakers in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speakers before installation; each speaker weighs approximately 4.5 pounds.

Paintable: The grille and flange can be painted, allowing these speakers to match any decor.

Great price and they sound much better than what I was using before (Home theater in a box). Haven't tested much more expensive models. Also, I have installed and uninstalled them about 10 times and have not had one clip break. I guess just realize that you are in fact dealing with plastic and be realistic when tightening it.

Speakers were nicely packages and easy to install. I'm planning to use them in a remodeled kitchen and tested these speakers out by hanging them from the joists in the ceiling. They sounded crisp and clear. I can't wait to hear them after the ceiling drywall is in place and I re-install the speakers. I'm hoping the enclosure will help the bass a bit because it was not as strong as I would have liked. I may have to augment with a subwoofer to get a deeper bass response. The speakers are very good for a kitchen ceiling.
Pros:
Great looking, easy to install, good sound clarity for the price.
Cons:
Could use a little more bass, but that is what a subwoofer is for.

Brilliant speakers for rear surrounds!

Just installed these as rear surrounds in the ceiling for a 7.2 channel set up in my media room. They sound absolutely fantastic (lows, mediums and highs) and will be paired with Polk 65RTs as surrounds, Polk RTiA7's as fronts and a Polk CSiA6 as my center. The pivot-able tweeter is key too and it really allows you to direct your sound where it's most critical to you. Very happy with the way Polk provides a template for the cut-out in the ceiling and the fastening system works flawlessly. Just be sure not to over tighten these AND do not worry about the grill as it will be difficult to get off (the reason it is hard to get off is so it stays on when the speaker is in use). Take a corkscrew and try to lift the speaker ONLY from the edge of the grill (where it meets the plastic/woofer). Just pry a little bit from 4 different points and eventually you will loosen the grille enough to get it off. Pry only from around the edges people!!! What a brilliant design across the board from Polk Audio. 5 STARS!!!!!

I haven't been able to install these yet but there seems to be some issues with getting the grill covers off without damaging the grill covers. I found that you need only to hold the speaker in your lap and slightly push down on the sides and working all the way around the speaker. The grills will then start to pop right out of the enclosure. No need to use a bent paper clip. The speakers seem to be well built and should live up to all the previous reviews. jd

Speakers are heavy and need additional support on my 2X 2 foot drop ceiling tile. I used 1/8" hardwood plywood above the ceiling tile to clamp onto! Wood available inexpensively at Lowes. The speakers have great sound, strings sound great with the tweeter and bass is more than acceptable. A luxury to have in my dental operatory. You can't get much more sound definition for the reasonable cost of this pair of speakers. Speakers are attractive and well made.
Pros:
easy to install in ceiling tile, went without a hitch. Great Sound! Crutchfield had them to me in 48 hours, packed beautifully. Telephone support was exceptional! These guys really want you to be happy.

Ease of install was incredible! The templates were right on and after cutout the self treading screws locked the speakers into the ceiling with ease. Quick connect clips were positioned great and the low profile of the magnet made avoiding one ceiling joist a breeze!

The sound quality performance of the speaker was certainly acceptable for the price. The complaint is purely with the grill covers and how the instruction guide directed me to remove them with a bent paper clip which resulted in bent grill holes. Must have taken over an hour to gently coax them off without damage, all to no avail. A preferred packaging solution would have been like their higher end models(i.e.- MC80) where the covers are not attached from the onset. I'll be seeking replacement grills from Polk. I'm curious how they will handle my request.could be off to Definitive.

Excellent sound for rear surround.
Pros:
Easy to install in ceiling
Cons:
No literature on whether you let insulation contact the speakers. I chose to make an enclosure behind them made out of round concrete forms about 12" tall with a styrofoam top and lined with felt. Keeps the insulation off the speakers and sounds good

sound quality is fine for our use - they are in a 15' ceiling in a business. We also painted them black to match the ceiling - very easy to do with the templates provided. We did need to buy an extra support to place them in ceiling tiles as they were a little heavy.

These speakers are awesome. To be honest, i have no other in-ceiling speakers to compare them to but they sound amazing. They are being run by a Denon 2312-CL and they sound good. For the price, you can NOT beat this!!
