Unfortunately the stock size speakers are only 4" front and 5" rear. I did not expect much sound or volume from such a small package. After doing some light customizing to get them fitting properly, I fired them up powering them only with my new Kenwood X695 radio. Wow! I can't believe how much sound comes from these tiny speakers! I added an MTX powered sub while I was re-doing my stereo for some thump in the trunk. These speakers keep their clarity even at high volumes, and reallyperform wonderfully even with just the Kenwood receiver powering them. Pros: Great sound even with the small size. I measured them and found the hole to be 5 inches!!! NOTE: This is when putting them in the original ported, amped, boxes that are still in place. These work perfectly! I hope they correct the guide for all those old 4Runners that are still on the road. As far as the sound, they are limited on bass, but what do you expect from 5" speakers. They are hooked up to a Clarion head unit. No amplification. These speakers sound as good as any aftermarket speakers I've owned (I've bought way too many - anyone remember Cricket?). You can't beat these for the price. I also highly recommend Crutchfield's Outlet. I saved 10 or fifteen bucks just because the speakers had been opened. Contrary to what the Crutchfield site says, they do not fit in the front doors of a 1991 Audi 200 with a factory Bose system. That car has an amplified speaker enclosure in each front door, with a recess for a 4" speaker with three mounting holes in a triangular arrangement. The Polks have four mounting holes in a square arrangement. There is no way to make a square speaker fit down into the triangular recess. I bought the Polk DB series speakers for my 93 Volvo 240 sedan. Unfortunately the stock size speakers are only 4" front and 5" rear. I did not expect much sound or volume from such a small package. After doing some light customizing to get them fitting properly, I fired them up powering them only with my new Kenwood X695 radio. Wow! I can't believe how much sound comes from these tiny speakers! I added an MTX powered sub while I was re-doing my stereo for some thump in the trunk. These speakers keep their clarity even at high volumes, and reallyperform wonderfully even with just the Kenwood receiver powering them. Pros: Great sound even with the small size. Written By BrianC, Dallas, TX on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 The "outfit my car" guide says the back panels in my old 4Runner require 5 1/4" speakers, but when I tried to install them, they were too big and I found the previous replacements were 4". I measured them and found the hole to be 5 inches!!! NOTE: This is when putting them in the original ported, amped, boxes that are still in place. These work perfectly! I hope they correct the guide for all those old 4Runners that are still on the road. As far as the sound, they are limited on bass, but what do you expect from 5" speakers. Very easy to install in rear doors of 2004 Nissan Frontier. It took maybe 45 mins. for both sides. I used the Nissan grilles. These speakers sound great paired with the Polk db 651's up front. They are hooked up to a Clarion head unit. No amplification. These speakers sound as good as any aftermarket speakers I've owned (I've bought way too many - anyone remember Cricket?). You can't beat these for the price. I also highly recommend Crutchfield's Outlet. I saved 10 or fifteen bucks just because the speakers had been opened. Contrary to what the Crutchfield site says, they do not fit in the front doors of a 1991 Audi 200 with a factory Bose system. That car has an amplified speaker enclosure in each front door, with a recess for a 4" speaker with three mounting holes in a triangular arrangement. The Polks have four mounting holes in a square arrangement. There is no way to make a square speaker fit down into the triangular recess. She is using a Sony Head Unit CDX-GT320 which puts out 17w RMS per speaker. These 5in speakers replaced the 4in paper stock speakers. A BIG IMPROVEMENT!!! Also, easy to install.
