Pioneer

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Our take on the Pioneer TS-G6844R

by John Pollard

Pioneer's TS-G Series speakers can help you get better sound and conserve cash. These affordably-priced speakers replace your worn-out factory speakers, and reproduce your music more clearly at higher power levels.

The TS-G6844R 6"x8" speakers feature nimble polypropylene woofers that offer plenty of punch, along with film balanced dome tweeters that'll really brighten up the sound in your car. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Highlights:

  • 6"x8" 2-way car speakers (pair)
  • injection-molded polypropylene (IMPP) woofer cone with treated cloth surround
  • 1-3/16" PEI film balanced dome tweeter

    Don't Buy

Written By KurtisP, Montana on Thursday, May 02, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My blown factory speakers in '95 Ford Windstar sounded better. Very "tinny" sound with no bass. I also ordered some 5-1/4" JBL speakers that were cheaper and sounded WAY better. I did not use with a crossover, but if you are spending the money to do things right with a crossover, spend a little more and get good speakers.
    Pros:
    None.
    Cons:
Terrible sound. Can get better speakers for less money. Don't consider unless using a crossover and subwoofer.

    Not for full-range applications

Written By JohnieR, Central Texas on Tuesday, April 30, 2013
    Installed in a 2005 Ford F-150
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So, just for kicks, I hooked these up and played them full range without a crossover and with my sub off. In that application, the factory speakers in my F150 actually sound better, as these are really weak on bass. However, as a mid/high speaker, these are definitely worth the price. I crossed mine at 140 hz, but you will probably want to cross them over no lower than 100 hz. I crossed mine over at 140 because my sub is only a 150 watt 10", and my door speakers are driven by a 16 wpc Sony head unit (also from Crutchfield). With the bass handled by the sub, these sound very, very good for a coax speaker. Do they rival a component system, of course not, but try finding a component speaker system for this price. Super easy to hook up with the included Ford wiring adapters. My five-star rating takes into account the price tag.
    Pros:
Great mids and highs for a budget speaker. Nice clarity when subs do the heavy lifting.
    Cons:
The bass is weak so they are not great for factory replacement without subs.

    Solid speakers

Written By Anonymous, So Cal on Monday, April 29, 2013
Installed in a 2013 Ford Mustang
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are pretty good speakers especially for the price. I replaced my factory speakers in my '13 Mustang with these Pioneer's. Installation was easy and the most difficult part was getting to the speakers and still not bad. They sound good when listening to Hard Rock, clean and nice bass. After breaking them in for a couple of weeks, my commute is only 15 minutes each way to work., I turned them up loud and there was a little bit of distortion at the highest volume level, but could be the factory radio and I don't listen to the music that loud anyway. A decent amp would help these speakers out though.
    Pros:
    price, clean sound, decent bass
    Cons:
    none really

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers offer very good sound over factory speakers. Price was a good deal as well. I didn't want to break the bank to get good sound in my truck. These speakers were the perfect fit.
    Pros:
Good sound, good highs from these speakers.
    Cons:
Not a whole low of low bass response, but good for the size of the speakers.

Decent speaks, good price, fairly efficient, not the best quality but an upgrade over stock for less than the price of a tank of gas ...power them up and hammer on them because they do get decently loud ...could use more mid bass though but you get what you pay for
    Pros:
    Cheap
    Cons:
    No mid bass

    Replaced Ford tailgate speakers

Written By Much better than factory Mach system., Fort Worth, Texas on Tuesday, April 23, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the factory 6x9s in my wagon tailgate. The Ford Mach system (tuner with external amp, 6 speakers) in my car is quite good but these speakers pump out more sound and thumping bass. Big improvement.
    Pros:
Better sound than factory. Dirt cheap price. Hassle free Crutchfield sales & support.
    Cons:
Didn't jump out of the box and install themselves.

These are pretty good stock replacement speakers, I'm happy with them. I did have a wiring issue with the ford adapters, they were catching and pulling apart when I roll my windows down but Crutchfield was great help in getting this issue fixed for me.
    Pros:
Clear sound for a good price.
    Cons:
Good bass but I'd like a little more.

    Great speakers for the price

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers for the price range. Installation is simple with Crutchfield's guide. The job took 25-30 minutes to do and the speakers sound great. They could use a bit more bass, but for 2 way speakers, they do the job just fine. Always been a fan of Pioneer and they haven't disappointed me yet.
    Pros:
Cheap, easy installation, great sound for this price range
    Cons:
Could use a little more bass

    Perfect Speakers

Written By Mike, Bonita Springs, FL on Monday, March 11, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pioneer does it again. I couldn't have asked for better door speakers at this price. They work perfectly with my Pioneer head unit, which may help their performance some. I put only my highs and mids out through them and there is no distortion whatsoever, no matter how loud I go, no crossover or anything.

    PIONEER coaxial speakers

Written By TomTomE, Charleston, SC on Saturday, February 23, 2013

Far and away much better sound than the factory paper-cone door speakers in my 2003 Miata MX-5. More bass, handles full volume with the factory SANYO head unit. I've noticed some reviewers for these speakers say they are getting less bass than their old speakers. *TIP... Whenever there is more than one speaker, polarity becomes very important. All speakers have a positive (+) and a negative (-) connection. If you accidentally reverse these on one of your two speakers then one cone moved in the opposite direction the other does in effect taking back the bass produced by the other one. A bass "cancellation" if you will. One cone moves outward while the other moved inward, working against one another. This can be easily detected by ear. With balance in the middle, position your head directly between the two speakers (equidistant from both). If you hear flattened bass turn the balance to one or the other so only one plays. If your bass comes back then one is wired "out of phase" with respect to the other. Just reverse the wires one. When you have four speakers both the rears or just one can also be out of phase with the fronts. Installing them correctly I'm sure you will be pleased with the results the Pioneer's provide.
    Pros:
Relatively low cost. Non-paper cones. Non-Foam surround material for long lasting durability.
    Cons:
    Do not include cover grills.

    did not fit

Written By EasyNC, Asheville, NC on Saturday, January 12, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound ok, but no bass (the factory paper speakers sound better!), but the biggest grip is they do not fit my Mazda B2500 even though the Crutchfield size finder program said they would. I finally got the front two spaekresto fit by removing the plastic modled frame that said "Custom fit for Ford/Mazda", but busted one of the rear one trying to get it to fit, so i ended up throwing away the busted one and the other good one because of the hassle (took about 4 hours of messing around with them...) and the lack of bass. don't waste your money unless you absolutely have to replace your old speakers.
    Pros:
    Inexpensive
    Cons:
Did not fit B2500 Mazda Pick up Truck extended cab
