In-ceiling Design The Klipsch R-1650-CSM in-ceiling speaker
can be used in bathrooms, closets, hallways, or anywhere multiple speakers would
not be practical.
Stereo Input: The R-1650-CSM has dual spring clip terminals
to accept signals from both left and right channels. The dual voice coil woofer
sums the low frequencies from the stereo input to mono. The upper frequencies
are handled by individually for the two channels by a coaxially mounted
dual-tweeter array, to preserve the stereo effect. The terminals accept up to
12-gauge speaker wire.
Drivers: The R-1650-CSM is equipped with the following drivers:
- Tweeters: two 1" polymer dome tweeters
- Woofer: a 6-1/2" polypropylene
dual voice coil woofer
Basket/Frame: The R-1650-CSM has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The
frame can be painted to match any decor (a clear paint mask is supplied to
protect the drivers from overspray). The aluminum mesh grille is also paintable.
Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum
power handling of this speaker as 35 watts RMS (140 W Peak). Klipsch has also
published a recommended amplifier power specification as 70 watts. For the
purpose of matching the speaker with the best amplifier, Crutchfield is listing
the power specification as 70 watts.
Mounting Options
Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing
construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 8.33". For new construction,
purchase of the IK-650-C installation kit (714IK650C) is highly
recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in
drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2'
or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic
performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the
original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template
is included to assist you in making the cutout.
