Cast Alloy Baskets: The Evolution C5 component speakers feature
cast alloy woofer baskets and incorporate JL Audio's patented Elevated Frame cooling
system. This cooling technology, also found on the flagship ZR component systems and
W7 and W6v2 subwoofers, allows air to flow directly across the top plate and onto the
voice coil windings to improve linearity at all listening levels.
Motor Structure: The DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis)-optimized
motor structure adds to speaker linearity.
Woofer Cones: The cone and suspension elements were designed
and manufactured by the world-famous Dr. Kurt Müller & Co of Germany. The
speakers feature low-mass, mineral-filled polypropylene cones with butyl rubber
surrounds. The cone and surround are inherently well damped to deliver uncolored,
neutral bass without any coloration. The speakers are also equipped with
symmetrical-roll, hybrid-weave spiders.
Midrange
Material: Like the woofers, the midrange drivers are designed
by Dr. Kurt Müller & Co and use DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis), mineral-filled
polypropylene cones, butyl rubber surrounds, and symmetrical-roll spiders.
Size: The 4" midrange drivers will fit many factory
4" speaker locations; they are top mounted and have these dimensions:
- Depth (top mount): 1.632"
- Mounting height: 0.291"
- Flange height: 0.291"
- Magnet Diameter: 2.814"
- Cutout diameter: 3.566"
- Frame diameter: 3.968"
Tweeter
Silk Domes: The C5 component system's 3/4" edge driven
silk dome tweeters offer smooth on-axis and off-axis response for accurate imaging
and a big, stable soundstage.
Neodymium Magnets: The small neodymium magnets and small chassis
give you excellent tweeter placement flexibility.
Performance: Each pair of C5 tweeters is tested and matched to
within 1 dB of JL Audio's reference curve to ensure optimum system performance.
Mounting Options: The tweeters can be surface mounted or flush
mounted. JL Audio's RSR flush mounting system permits adjusting the tweeter angle
after installation; there are four positions for angling the tweeter inside the
flush mount.

Crossover
Three-way Crossover System: The C5 component system utilizes
a true 3-way 12 dB/octave crossover system. There are four tweeter level settings
selectable via jumper pins: +2.0dB, Reference, -1.5dB, and -3.0dB. There are also
three levels of midrange presence (affects the amplitude of the upper woofer range):
Low, Reference, and High.
Polyswitch: Polyswitch tweeter protection is incorporated into
each crossover system.
Barrier Strips: Each crossover's connections are screw terminals
that will accommodate spade connectors up to 0.315" wide.
Dimensions: The C5 crossover has the following dimensions:
- Width: 4.16"
- Height: 1.70"
- Depth: 5.88"
Connection Note: The C5 component system comes with no speaker
wire. Instead, a number of spade connectors and quick slides are included in the
hardware pack to be crimped onto speaker wire you provide.
