Dual

Our take on the Dual XD1222

Talk about bang for your buck — Dual's XD1222 CD receiver gives you a slew of handy features for a fraction of the cost of most other stereos. Its user-friendly controls, detachable face, and solid tone make it a nice upgrade from many factory radios.

Play all your store-bought or recordable CDs, and you can tweak the sound to your liking with the bass and treble controls or by choosing from three preset EQ curves. Use the handy front-panel auxiliary input to listen to your iPod®, MP3 player, or Dock & Play satellite radio. You can also connect an amp or a powered sub to the set of preamp outputs.

Dual adds another handy feature — a front-panel USB charging port. It'll charge most USB-equipped devices, including MP3 players and cell phones, so your important devices won't go dead during a long road trip.

You get what you paid for.

Written By Gerardo, Salt Lake, Utah on Saturday, May 08, 2010

I bought this one a while ago. Personally my stock radio deck made my speakers sound so much better. Friends say maybe I just need an Amp, but I am no expert. Sleek design. The weird noise only happens when you have the Ipod hooked up to the USB charger and the AUX port. Its not the best but hey it plays your ipod and charges it. For the price do not expect an Alpine deck. Great for the money!

I have bought two of these so far. I have not been putting these in cars. the first went in a CASE front end loader, and the second in a John Deer tractor. John Deer wanted $300 for a Delco radio. It took a bit of wiring but i got them in. Overall the radio is great, and simple to use (a must for my father). Would i put this radio in my car? Probably not. If you need a cheap radio for an old car or a project, you cant beat this.

Disappointed my Daughter

Bought this radio for my daughter because it sounded like a good starter unit and had an MP3 and Aux connections. Bad choice. The CD skips over the slightest bumps, even using Crutchfield's installation kit. The radio section repeatedly stops working and she has to take off the face plate and use the reset switch. I thought maybe it was the car's wiring so I reinstalled the OEM radio and it worked great. My advice: spend a few more bucks on something else and stay away from Dual!

Was dissappointed with the first unit. The faceplate was loose & would not keep a connection. I called Crutchfield's support # & Rudy was very helpful & sent me a replacement radio on the spot. I got the new one installed & is muuuuuch better than the 1st! It sounds great & I love the blue glowing light it projects! Has a great sound, though it would sound better with new speakers, but it even makes my weak factory speakers sound good.

The harness assembly was a breeze, although my only complaint is that they should include a 3rd picture of the radio connecter as well for the harness install.

Dual XD1222

Written By Dan, Avon, CT on Tuesday, December 29, 2009

I purchased this head unit today. I had already bought two used head
units and got ripped off on both of them, so I decided to just buy a basic new
head unit.

Installing this radio in my car was a breeze. The wiring harness is color coded
in the standard pattern and the wires are prestripped. I needed to superglue on
the trim ring because of the design of my car, but beyond that I had no issues.

I have the head unit running four 4.5" pioneer speakers and the line out going
to a 12" Rockford Fosgate Sub with a 150 watt RMS clarion amp. It sounds very
good, and I am genuinely pleased with the head unit.

XD1222

Written By T.J. M, Albuquerque, NM on Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Bought one of these to replace factory radio in my '03 Ranger. It's a work truck, and I
didn't want to spend alot of money, so I chose this one for the low price. I've had it for a
few months now with absolutely none of the problems some previous reviewers have
had. Nice unit for the money, very happy with it. The only thing I don't like is that the
volume knob is too shallow. When you turn it, your fingers hit the surrounding buttons.
Would be nice if it had a dimple on the face of the knob to stick your fingertip in and
swivel it around.

This is a great radio and CD player for the price. The stock CD player in my Chrysler
minivan totally stopped working and I was dying without it...bought this to replace it and it
makes the stock speakers sound better. Volume is good - louder than my stock radio.
CD player does take a second or two to load and start playing, but not horrible and I'm
ok with it. The USB charging port is a cool feature...kid loves it so he can charge his
mp3. Overall, I wouldn't say anything bad about this product. I would recommend it to
anyone who just needs a good stereo - it's obviously not top of the line, but it works just
fine and is good enough for me.
